Licence FREE / Licence Exempt Radio

Known by the generic name PMR 446, it is a low cost two way communication service using low power Handportable equipment.  No Ofcom licence is required and the equipment can be used throughout the UK as well as in many European countries.

It is suitable for small ‘on-site' mobile communication requirements, such as Leisure Centres, Schools and Small Warehouses.  It is a versatile form of instant communication that is also ideal for leisure activities such as walking, cycling and climbing.

PMR 446 is easy to use and ideal for any first time user of two-way radio.  A variety of equipment is available at low prices and low running costs.

Due to the fact that PMR 446 operates on de-regulated channels we do not advise its use in mission critical or safety of life situations.

New variations of License Exempt radios are becoming available using the latest Digital technology. Some of these will use adjacent channels to the analogue PMR446 equipment and others will use the de-regulated WiFi channels used by many computer systems.
